After going through what can only be described as one of the worst weeks I can remember, I was remembering a post on my dear friend Dirkey's blog, which she posted last year. I re-read this blog post and I have to agree with her 100%. Everyone turns to their own form of comfort during difficult and painful times, some healthy...some not so healthy. But music has also been a source of solace for me when I have a weary heart.
This past week has been no different and, on a couple occasions (namely on my long drive to work) I have driven in my car listening to certain tunes that I can either identify with or that serve to reassure and restore me. The one that really stuck with me this week is the song "Get Me Through December", sung by Alison Krauss. I've listened to it so many times, I almost constantly hear the following lyrics in my head (put to music, of course):
"I've been to the mountain left my tracks in the snow
Where souls have been lost and the walking wounded go
I've taken the pain no girl should endure
Faith can move mountains of that I am sure
But faith can move mountains of that I am sure
Just get me through December
A promise I'll remember
Get me through December
So I can start again"
Thank you, Lord, for the gift of music. I can hear You through the medium of music...one place I can always go to seek Your comfort. And thanks to Dirkey for sharing through your own pain...it has helped me in mine.
